3-6 - Tuesday Night Homework!

Compete part II of your World War I Poetry packet. This section is the constructed response. You may type your ENTIRE response on the website, however I encourage you to write it by hand into your packet. Use my sentence as a sample introduction sentence.

Introduction: I think the poetry of World War I reflects the horrific conditions of the war.

Example of a detail:

In the poem, "How to Die," the author states, "The lads go west with sobs and curses." This means soldiers were extremely upset to go to war on the Western Front most likely because they feared death.

This constructed response is a great chance for you to 'show off' what you have learned about World War I and compare it to these great poems we are reading. Look for connections between the trench warfare, weapons and technology that we learned in class and what the authors write about in these poems. You may be surprised at the connections you make! Good luck.

Write a poem that is at least 6 lines! Use the descriptive words form the Lost Battalion. Write as much as you can! The more the better. The poem does not have to rhyme, but do try and capture the feelings, emotions and tragedy of the war in your own creative way.

New Unit!- WORLD WAR I

The Great War begins. This unit discusses the first outbreak of a global battle that involves many major players we have studied this year including France, Italy, Germany and yes the good old United States of America. This unit we will see how alliances are formed, the impact of imperialism, and the crazy amount of death and violence that occurs in the first world war. The development of machine guns, tanks, poison gas, trenches, and airplanes lead to an extraordinary amount of deaths.
