Starting in January, Mr. Hostetter’s World History classes would like to begin an afterschool club called Hollywood in History! There have been terrific award winning-movies over the years that are based on historical events and people. However, Hollywood has an interesting way of portraying such events that can sometimes fabricate or exaggerate the facts. The club will serve to analyze in further detail historical events and compare and contrast the facts to the Hollywood myths and inaccuracies.
Students are visual learners and history can be hard to visualize or imagine. Cinema provides an excellent platform to bring bland or boring text to life. Using film to engage students in history will allow them to better appreciate learning about such events.
- · The club will meet directly after school in room 346 on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 – 4:00 pm - DAYS TO BE ANNOUNCED!
- · Students must have a B or higher in class to participate in the club and a record of good behavior in all classes
- · There will be required journals and writing assignments attached to each movie
- · There will be film projects every month
- · Students will be required to have a permission slip to be members of the club and to view certain movies.
I believe this will be a great opportunity to expand student curiosity and engagement in history.
