New Unit!- WORLD WAR I

The Great War begins. This unit discusses the first outbreak of a global battle that involves many major players we have studied this year including France, Italy, Germany and yes the good old United States of America. This unit we will see how alliances are formed, the impact of imperialism, and the crazy amount of death and violence that occurs in the first world war. The development of machine guns, tanks, poison gas, trenches, and airplanes lead to an extraordinary amount of deaths.

Invisible Children

Hey All,

Here is the video invisible children that we began to watch in class.
This movie is about children in Uganda ( a former British colony). The children are from the Sudan where there has been an outbreak of civil war for the last 20 years.

Monday Homework #2 - Writing Prompt

RESPONSE:
Directions: Based on what you just read, do you agree with the quote below?  Why or why not?  (Use information from your notes in your answer.)
“[The African’s] chances of effective resistance have been steadily dwindling with the increasing perfectibility of modern weapons.  … Thus the African is really helpless against the material gods of the white man, as embodied in the trinity of imperialism, capitalistic exploitation, and militarism.”
–Edward Morel (a British journalist) from his book The Black Man’s Burden

In other words...

Do you think Africans stood a chance to resist European
Imperialism? Even with all the weapons, money and power Europeans
Countries had over Africa?

The author of the quote says 'NO!' What do you think?

Monday Homework!

Do you think Africa is still considered a valuable continent? If not why do you think this changed since imperialism?
